The safety of Mumbai city raises significant concerns owing to its geographical location and prevailing weather conditions. Floods, landslides, cyclones, fires, and chemical disasters are recurrent hazards in the area. Moreover, the impact of climate change is anticipated to amplify the frequency and intensity of these occurrences, consequently heightening the vulnerability of local communities.
IPE Global and ESRI developed a multi-hazard risk atlas for crisis and disaster management. This MHRA will be integrated into the Command and Control Centre for integrated emergency surveillance and management. This assessment will consider past trends and projected climate change scenarios to recommend solutions that will strengthen disaster management policies and plans and build resilience. The proposed evaluation will help the city administration plan and respond to disasters more effectively, making Mumbai safer and more resilient.
