The project aims to develop a multi-hazard risk atlas for crisis and disaster management in Mumbai. The ongoing assignment aims to evaluate the risks and vulnerabilities of Mumbai, which are of significant concern owing to its geographical location and prevailing weather conditions. Floods, landslides, cyclones, fires, and chemical disasters are recurrent hazards in the area. Moreover, the impact of climate change is anticipated to amplify the frequency and intensity of these occurrences, consequently heightening the vulnerability of local communities.
We have been engaged to recommend solutions that will strengthen disaster management policies, and plans and build resilience. The proposed assessment will help the city administration plan and respond to disasters more effectively, making Mumbai a safer and more resilient city.
