It was a humid afternoon in Nagwa block of Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, when 16-year-old Meera (name changed), a promising student, first experienced a panic attack. She was walking back from school, overwhelmed by the academic pressures of grade 10, her upcoming exams, the fear of being forced to drop out of school due to distance, […]
Adverse climate events have become the new norm in India, impacting lives, livelihoods and the economy.
With advancing human development and economic growth, societies generate more waste, underscoring the need for sustainable consumption and resource management. As we approach a decade of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) with Swachhta Diwas 2024, the focus is on mobilising communities and aligning habits to responsibly manage waste, promoting cleanliness, and preventing plastic leakage into […]
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The world is one family) One of the earliest proponents of global citizenship rooted in India’s philosophy and culture, this ancient Sanskrit phrase has come a long way from the pages of Maha Upanishads to the rostrum of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and to being celebrated at India’s recent G20 Summit. The deadly floods triggered by heavy rains in Kerala were the latest in a streak of disasters that could have been avoided through better planning, according to experts.
The limited mention of the health sector in today’s budget speech is not surprising, given the substantial provisions already made in the Interim Budget.
With a focus on inclusive development for Viksit Bharat, the Budget reflects the government’s focus on the underprivileged, youth, farmers, and women. I would have liked to see more around innovative financing, more schemes around rural part of India.
