Odisha government wins national e-governance award

Adding a feather to its cap, Odisha government has been awarded a national e-governance award for its successful e-initiatives in agriculture namely, Procurement Automation System (P-PAS) and farmer registration programme during the two-day 19th National e-Governance conference inaugurated in Nagpur yesterday.

After getting Krishi Karman Award for 2014-15, Odisha government’s Food, Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department’s paddy procurement method has received kudos by the Central government.On the 19th National e-Governance conference in Nagpur on Thursday, Odisha government has received the award by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

Notably, this year paddy was procured from farmers across 160 blocks in Odisha and their payment was deposited directly to their bank accounts.Similarly, an estimated 7 lakh farmers have been registered by the state government.

The P-PAS automation system, an initiative of the Department of International Development (DFID) supported by Odisha Modernising Economy Governance Administration (OMEGA), has overcome many procedural problems starting from procurement to delivery of paddy to the millers.

Under the e-procurement system around Rs 6,500 crore worth paddy has been bought by the state government.National Awards for e-Governance for the Year 2015-16 were given for exemplary implementation of e-Governance initiatives in 12 categories, including awards given for best district level initiative in citizen-centric service delivery through ICT, innovative use of GIS technology in e-governance, innovative use of mobile technology in e-governance, besides the sectoral awards.
