India underlined that its nationally determined contribution to fight climate change will help achieve the long-term goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2070. Union Budget 2022-23 highlights the government’s focus on energy transition, which is expected to fuel “green growth” in the country in the coming years. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman listed “green growth” among four opportunities that can be transformative for India in the run up to 2047, the country’s 100th year of independence. The other three are: economic empowerment of women, integrating traditional artisans with the MSME sector, and tourism.
